Beauty Products To Buy When You’re Short On Sleep

We’ve all been there. Those bleary-eyed days with a newborn, immersed in a sea of poo-stained vests and sick-covered muslins, facing sleep deprivation like never before.

Back in my student days, I used to think I was tired after dancing till 2am. Oh no. That was nothing compared to the deluge of exhaustion you face as a slightly bamboozled new parent. And in the student days, you’d always get a lie-in and fry-up the next morning to sort you out. No such luck when you’re feeding a tiny human 24 hours a day.

Obviously, meeting your baby for the first time is absolutely magical, but it also turns your world upside down and changes your life in ways you wouldn’t expect. And the perpetual state of exhaustion can make you feel downright rubbish, because you don’t really have time to look after yourself.

Here at Mummies’ Club, we think all new parents deserve to treat themselves whenever they get a chance. We’ve put together a list of our favourite beauty essentials that are sure to give you a little boost and make you feel like yourself again, even if it’s just for the few minutes between nappy changes… Enjoy!

Benefit Fakeup Under Eye Concealer

Unfortunately, eye bags tend to go hand in hand with looking after a newborn, but this concealer certainly does the trick! It’s super-hydrating with vitamin E, and hides dark circles a treat.

Sumptuous Extreme Waterproof Mascara, Estee Lauder

Waterproof mascara is an absolute essential when you have a baby, because sleep deprivation + newborn = crying at the drop of a hat. Here’s a good one from Estee Lauder, that will keep those lashes looking gorgeous, despite a few emotional moments here and there.

No7 Rapid Radiance Balm

This highlighter is perfect for those days where you need a little pick-me-up after being up all night singing “Twinkle, Twinkle”. Apply a tiny amount over your cheekbones after a quick smear of foundation and you’ll have the glow of a supermum goddess.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer

This little spritzer is packed with gorgeous goodies that your skin will love. It smells incredible and is guaranteed to perk you up during or after all of those night feeds.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Ah dry shampoo – how we love thee. Many a bad-hair-day has been averted with this handy little product, and it works wonders when you don’t have time to shower in the crazy newborn days.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial

OK so, this one is a bit of a splurge at £46 – but it’s totally worth it. InStyle says “it’s 8 hours sleep in a bottle”, which seems like a pretty good deal when you don’t know when you’ll get your next full night’s kip! Packed full of antioxidents and essential oils, it promises to leave your skin smooth, soft and plump by morning. Sounds like a winner to us.
